New RADAR variants: RADAR Hybrid and RADAR Local

You can now choose between three variants of the research data repository RADAR, so that you can find the best solution for your particular needs, technical resources, and desired level of integration.

While the well-known RADAR Cloud service, which has been available since 2017, still does not require any technical infrastructure on the part of the using institutions, the two new variants RADAR Hybrid and RADAR Local allow to integrate own IT resources into RADAR!

All three operating variants use the same RADAR software. Likewise, in each variant, the using institution takes over the administration of the RADAR working environment, the data upload, the organization of the research data and their description with metadata, as well as the curation of the data sets.

The three variants briefly outlined:

RADAR Cloud, a "software as a service" solution, provides an entire research data repository hosted by FIZ Karlsruhe on a secure cloud platform. The data are stored in three copies at different locations in the data processing centers of Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC) of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and at Zentrum für Informationsdienste und Hochleistungsrechnen (ZIH) of TU Dresden.

Institutions using RADAR Hybrid can store their research data in their own archive by means of the hosted RADAR software. The local data processing center or an external storage service can be integrated into RADAR as an alternative storage infrastructure.

With RADAR Local, FIZ Karlsruhe operates the RADAR software on behalf of the using institution on the institution’s local IT infrastructure and only using the institution’s own storage systems. The RADAR Local homepage can be designed according to the needs of the institution and the service can be offered under an web address of the institution's own choice. The using institution itself acts as the service provider.

Each variant is subject to a different service agreement including a transparent pricing model.
