Participation in the incubator cycle of the NFDI basic service TS4NFDI

We are very pleased to be an active part of the current incubator cycle of the TS4NFDI (Terminology Services 4 NFDI) project.

TS4NFDI is a core base service in the Base4NFDI network dedicated to the cross-domain provision, curation, development, harmonization and mapping of terminologies within the NFDI. It aims to provide standardized terminologies for various scientific communities and thus promote interoperability and consensus building between the consortia. TS4NFDI currently provides more than 200 different terminologies and 14 community-specific terminology collections via interfaces.

Supported by the TS4NFDI team, we are working on the integration of subject-specific terminologies into the metadata field “Keywords” of our publication services RADAR4Chem and RADAR4Culture during the incubator project.

Our development activities in detail:

1. Extension of the metadata editor: suggestion lists of standardized terms are provided by typeahead via TS4NFDI interfaces.
2. Optimization of the landing page: Standardized terms and their terminologies are presented clearly and linked to further information - supported by so-called TS4NFDI widgets.
3. Improved findability of data: Additional filter options “Keywords” and “Terminology” facilitate the precise search for relevant datasets in the RADAR publication lists.

These improvements will significantly simplify the metadata description through standardized, interoperable keywords for data providers and further increase the FAIRness of RADAR datasets. This will not only promote the sustainable findability and interpretability of data publications, but also facilitate their integration into knowledge graphs.

The new features will be available this summer for our NFDI-specific publication services as well as for RADAR Cloud and RADAR Local. In the long term, we plan to extend the integration of further terminologies via TS4NFDI to other RADAR metadata fields.
