As of now, the data archiving service can be paid for by a one-off payment. This means that storage-volume-dependent costs are only incurred in the year of data archiving.
In this way, we are responding to the requirements of institutions who wish to be able to pay the budget for storage services, which in the case of third-party-funded research is usually only available for the duration of the project, once and completely for the entire archiving period.
The new billing model for data archiving complements the established mode of annual payment over the entire retention period and does not replace it. RADAR-using institutions choose which billing model they would like to use for data archiving when concluding the service agreement. The chosen model then applies to all data archiving of the institution. A change or a choice per dataset is not possible. If the one-off payment option is selected, data can only be archived over the 10-year retention period. This is in line with the archiving period demanded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
To reflect the new payment model, we have revised the service agreement for the RADAR Cloud variant. In addition, we have written the text of the agreement in gender-friendly German language, in line with FIZ Karlsruhe's commitment to equality. You can find the new service agreement here.
