Integration of Terminologies

The use of standardized terminologies in the metadata field “Keywords” has advantages both for annotation and reuse:

• As soon as data providers begin entering keywords, matching standardized terms are provided via typeahead and suggested as a drop-down list. The selection can be made conveniently with a mouse click.
• The standardized terms, including their ontology, are displayed clearly on the RADAR landing page with additional information about the term, its context, and further links, and are stored persistently in the metadata.

This significantly simplifies metadata description through standardized, interoperable keywords and further increases the FAIRness of RADAR data sets. It also promotes the sustainable findability and interpretability of data publications and facilitates their integration into knowledge graphs and semantic infrastructures.

Activation of terminologies:

To make the suggestion function for standardized terms available via TS4NFDI in the keyword field, it must first be activated:

• at contract level – by administrators in the “General information and storage volume” form
• at workspace level – by curators or administrators in the “Edit workspace” form

One or more terminologies and complete ontology collections can be assigned for configuration. This is currently possible by entering the corresponding abbreviations or names (comma-separated, without spaces), as they can be found here. Settings at workspace level have always priority over those at contract level - so individual adjustments to discipline-specific or project-specific requirements are possible. Data providers are shown transparently under “Workspace information” whether and which ontologies or ontology collections are available for them.
